Numb

It's taken me a few days to wrap my head around the latest developments on this journey we call thyroid cancer. Lauren had her yearly blood work and testing done beginning on her 19th birthday. Her thyroglobulin levels have been steadily rising to the point where we knew something had to be done. Her doctor did an ultrasound on her neck area and found the culprit- cancerous lymph nodes in the thyroid area that need to come out. We were presented with two options: 1.) Do another round of Radioactive Iodine and hope it attacks the lymph nodes or 2.) Surgery #4 to remove the lymph nodes. Both options obviously carry their own risks and benefits. The answer was clear to me, but I wanted to make sure Lauren had a say in her own healthcare. So together we decided that surgery is the best route for her at this time and she is scheduled for August 10th.
